Sunday is traditionally a family day in Mindelo ( island of Sao Vincente, Cape Verde). Almost all bars are closed, the streets are quit and you don’t see a lot of people around. Even the street prostitutes spend their time with their family. For the last five weeks or so every sunday the streets filled around three o clock with Mandinga; street carnaval.
Every sunday the Mandinga was there until about ten days ago. Since then it spread to other days of the week. Now every day the carnaval party’s get bigger and bigger during the day and the nights. Hope is anchored about a hundred meters from the city centre so it is not difficult to tell when there is a party. They tell me the biggest is yet to come which is difficult to believe.
I try to keep up but today I wake up at around 1430 after a crazy saturday night party. When I woke up I took a shower and went to the city to capture the carnaval family day. Below you find the pictures I took. A selection of them will make their way to OneWorld magazine for my report on Carnaval in Mindelo. Enjoy the pics!
